PRESS RELEASE: Mother of British journalist murdered in Chechnya to speak at 'Chechnya: God, Nation and the Native Land' Film Festival, 10 March 2007
Stina Scott, the mother of murdered British journalist Roddy Scott, will be addressing the audience at the Chechnya Film Festival this Saturday. Roddy Scott was killed by Russian forces in 2002 while covering the conflict between Russian and Chechen forces.
Scott is only one of several journalists and people of conscience who have been killed while attempting to break the silence on one of the most dangerous places in the world, the most recent victims being Anna Politkovskaya and Alexander Litvinenko. The world has watched while they have been silenced
Meanwhile Chechnya is becoming more and more isolated. It is effectively sealed off from the rest of the world, a place where officials are reluctant to venture and major news organisations refuse to send staff because it is simply too dangerous.
Save Chechnya Campaign aims to combat these trends by bringing together and presenting film and video footage from Chechnya
